SEO

What is SEO?

SEO is the short form for Search Engine Optimization. While there isn't actually a vehicle involved, it does kind of centre around movement - directing those searching the internet for your products or services directly to your website.

Most web traffic is directed by search engines, like Google, Yahoo and Bing. In order to be included in their
databases, they need to be able to find your website. Just having a great looking site filled with incredible information
is not going to get people TO your site. They have to be able to find you, and preferably ahead of your competition.

Consider the following two examples and see if you can relate.

You've just had a terrific website designed and you are ready to show it to the world. You launch the site and get ready for the people to come. First day you have two visitors. Not the response you anticipated and you're at a loss as to how to get people to find your website."

"You approach your website designer, indicate all the features and information you want included, then ask them to make sure your website is ranked number one."

Knowing what SEO is and how to use it properly will help to direct more users to your website and get you the
business you are looking for.

Why do you need SEO?

It is your ticket to getting found and noticed on the internet

  • Gives you a competitive edge
  • Helps generate sales and leads
  • Helps bring users to your site who are actually looking for the products or services you sell
  • Helps give you a higher ranking with search engines.

Okay, so now you know what SEO is and why you need it.....now what?

Well, here's where a bit of work on your part can land you huge results! Website development and the content on your site will only get you so far - there's a lot more work to be done to not only help search engines find you but also give your site a high page ranking.

How can you increase traffic to your website with very little (or no) cost?

Contrary to popular belief, a lot of SEO is actually something you can do on your own. Before you pay someone like us or a web optimization company to help with your site's rankings, try these options first:

  1. Paid Advertisements: Google AdWords,  Facebook or Yahoo.
  2. Blog Commenting - search for blogs that are related to your website and publish comments in them, including your URL.
  3. Use social networking sites such as Twitter and LinkedIn.
  4. Include outbound links within your website, directing your readers to other websites or articles
  5. List your company in online directories
  6. Create a newsletter and add to your site.
  7. Place videos on YouTube (making sure that they are relevant to your site, of course)
  8. Exchange links with your customers or other companies. This will lend credibility to your site.
  9. Have enough relevant content on your home page.
  10. Answer questions online that are related to your website's content.
  11. Write articles using key phrases that related to your website.
  12. Select a business tagline that is simple, clear, concise and relevant to your business.
