Questions about email for your business?
Why email is worth the effort

Your email list is the one audience you actually own.

Social platforms decide how many of your followers see a post. Ads stop the moment you stop paying. Your email list is different: you own it, you reach everyone on it, and nobody changes the rules between you and the people who asked to hear from you. That's why email tends to return more per dollar than almost anything else a small business runs.

It also reaches people at the right moment. A customer who bought six months ago, a quote that never closed, someone who signed up and then went quiet: these are people who already know you. A good email is often the nudge that brings them back, and it costs a fraction of finding someone new.

What email can do for your business

More than a monthly newsletter.

A newsletter is a fine place to start, but it's a small slice of what email can do. Most of the value is in the messages that send themselves at the right moment, or the ones aimed at people who already raised their hand. Worth considering, depending on what you sell:

Welcome series that introduce new subscribers and customers automatically
Win-back emails that bring back customers who drifted off
Abandoned-cart and post-purchase flows for a Shopify or ecommerce shop
Appointment, renewal and seasonal reminders for service businesses
Product, event and promotion launches sent to the right segment of your list
Brand engagement across email and social media that keeps you top of mind
What we handle

Email marketing services for Barrie and Simcoe County businesses

Most email work goes sideways in one of two ways. Either the strategy is sound but the email looks broken in half the inboxes it reaches, or it's a good-looking template with nothing behind it. We cover both, from the plan through to the code. If you already run your own list, we can step in on just the part that isn't working.

Strategy and campaign planning

"I don't know what to send, or how often."
We work out who the email is for, what it should say, how often it goes out, and the one or two numbers that tell you it worked, so you have a plan instead of a blank screen every month.

HTML email design and build

"My emails look broken in Outlook."
On-brand templates, hand-coded and tested so they render the same in Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail and on mobile. Email clients are less forgiving than browsers, so we build for the awkward ones on purpose.

Automation and flows

"I don't have time to send consistently."
Welcome sequences, abandoned-cart recovery, post-purchase follow-ups and re-engagement emails that run on their own once they're set up, so you're not writing every message from scratch.

Segmentation and personalization

"People ignore my emails."
Sending the same thing to everyone is the fastest way to train people to tune you out. We split your list by location, interest and behaviour so people get something relevant, which is what keeps open rates up.

Deliverability and CASL compliance

"I'm landing in spam, and I'm not sure I'm even allowed to email these people."
We handle the sending basics that keep you out of the spam folder and the consent and unsubscribe setup that keeps you onside with Canadian law. More on both below.

Reporting you can act on

"I have no idea if it's working."
Opens, clicks, unsubscribes and, where it applies, revenue tied back to specific sends. We'll tell you what the numbers mean and what to change next, not hand you a dashboard and wish you luck.

How to start

Start with one campaign, not a six-month contract.

You don't need to commit to a long program to find out whether email is worth it. Starting with one real campaign or flow lets you see how your audience responds before you spend on more, then build on what's working. Let's talk about your business, your customers, and what you want to accomplish with your first campaign.

Plan your first campaign
How a project runs

How an email marketing project runs

Every project runs through the same four stages, so you always know where yours stands and what happens next.

01

Audit and plan

We look at your list, your current tool and anything you've sent before, then map the first campaign or flow and the result it's aiming for.

02

Design and build

We write and design the email, then code and test the HTML across the major clients so it looks the way it should wherever it lands.

03

Segment and send

We set the audience, schedule or automate the send, confirm consent and unsubscribe handling, and push it live in your platform.

04

Measure and refine

We read what happened, tell you what it means in plain terms, and adjust the next send based on how your audience responded.

CASL and deliverability

Staying legal, and staying out of the spam folder

Two things decide whether your email reaches someone: whether you're allowed to send it, and whether the inbox lets it through. They're related, and both get overlooked until something goes wrong.

CASL, in plain terms

Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation applies to any commercial email sent to people in Canada, and the penalties are real. In practice it comes down to three things: you need consent to email someone, every message needs a working unsubscribe link, and you need a record of who opted in and when. We set your sign-up, consent and unsubscribe handling up so this is handled by default rather than something you worry about before every send.

Why good email lands in spam

Landing in spam is usually a setup problem, not a content problem. Missing domain authentication, a list with dead addresses on it, or a sudden jump in sending volume all tell inbox providers to be suspicious. We check the technical basics, authenticate your sending domain and keep your list clean, so the email you worked on actually gets seen.

Design and code under one roof

Plenty of people can send an email. Fewer can design one that looks like your brand and build it to hold up in a real inbox, because that takes both a designer and someone who knows how email HTML behaves. We do both.

20+ years, based in Barrie

We've built email for local Barrie businesses and for national brands with strict template and approval rules. You talk directly to the people doing the work, not an account manager relaying messages.

Your tool, or our recommendation

We work in Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Constant Contact, MailerLite and HubSpot, among others. If you haven't picked one, we'll suggest something that fits your list size and budget instead of the priciest option.

Why HTML Emails Break, and How to Build Ones That Shine

Plain text is safe but forgettable. HTML email gives a newsletter, campaign, or approved email its brand back, but it breaks in ways web pages never do. Here's why email rendering is its own discipline, the issues that trip teams up, and a client-by-client compatibility table.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about email marketing in Barrie?

Do you work with businesses in Barrie?

Yes. Fifth and Missing Design Group is based in Barrie and works with local businesses, regional organizations and teams across Simcoe County and the rest of Ontario.

What is CASL and does it apply to my email?

CASL is Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation. If you send commercial email to people in Canada, it applies to you. In practice it means you need consent to email someone, a working unsubscribe link, and a record of who opted in. We set this up so your sending stays on the right side of the law.

Why is my email going to spam?

Usually it's a sending setup problem, not your content. Missing domain authentication, a list with bad addresses on it, or a sudden jump in volume can all push email into spam. We check the technical basics and your list health, then fix what's dragging deliverability down.

Can you design the email but let us send it?

Yes. We can hand off tested HTML templates for your team to use in your own platform, or we can handle the full send. Plenty of clients want us for the design and build and keep the day-to-day sending in-house.

Why does my email look broken in Outlook?

Email clients read HTML differently than web browsers do, and Outlook is the strictest of the bunch. We build email with those quirks in mind and test across clients before anything goes out. Our HTML email rendering guide explains what causes it.

Do I need a newsletter, automated flows, or both?

It depends on what you sell and how people buy it. A regular newsletter keeps you in front of your audience, while automated flows do the follow-up work that's the same every time, like a welcome series or a cart reminder. Most businesses end up using a bit of both, and we'll suggest where to start.

How much does email marketing cost?

Cost depends on scope: a single campaign design is different from an ongoing program with automation and monthly sends. We start by understanding what you need email to do, then recommend a practical path and a clear estimate.

What areas do you serve around Barrie?

We're based in Barrie and work with businesses across Simcoe County, including Innisfil, Orillia, Collingwood, Midland, Wasaga Beach and the surrounding communities.
